Geoduck I watch far too much TV for any one person, and one of the shows I get a real kick out of is Dirty Jobs. Mike Rowe is so funny doing all those nasty jobs for our sheer pleasure and entertainment!  On a recent episode he went to a farm. On this "farm" they raised Geo ducks. (Gooey Ducks)If you have never heard of a Geo duck don't feel bad cuz neither had Mike Rowe! LOL I knew it was a food item in the seafood family but thats as far as my knowledge went. These had to be THE strangest critters I have ever seen! They consist of a shell portion and a siphon that comes out of the shell. The shell part has a foot. The foot buries the shell and the siphon just reaches the surface of the water in cold water marshlands. As the Geo duck grows it continues to bury itself deeper as the siphon can reach up to 2 feet long.....ten times the length of the shell portion. To harvest this year's crop the farmers took power washer type hoses and unburied the foot and shell reaching down and pulling out the Geo Duck. They know where they are located by the bubbles coming to the surface. When they pull this creature out it resembles a highly unusual phallic device! \8 I never laughed so hard in all my life as when I saw the look on Mike's face as he pulled up his first one!  As if that wasn't good enough Mike decides to take two of his finest Geo ducks to be prepared for him to eat. First the woman threw them in hot boiling water for exactly 6 seconds after which she took a knife and pried apart the shell. This is where it got gruesome....she reached down to the base of the creature and pulled the skin off all the way to the end of the siphon. It looked like a HUGE condom!  Next she made Mike clean the second one and when he was done she said "Oh, yours is bigger" of his skin he removed. Mike just got this shit eating look on his face and said "That sometimes happens in nature! To make this already long story somewhat short, he ate it sliced paper thin with a hot sauce to dip it in (sashemi style)....NOT on my list of foods I must try!   Pull My Fucking Hair!  |

Ms. purpletrashcan, Oh, how I wish I was still in the Pac NW, nothing better than fresh geo duck. I liked them steamed with a little alfredo sauce. Fried they were not bad as long as you did not over cook them. Try to stay warm and take care

OMG! I don't think we have any seafood quite that well endowed this side of the pond! Other than maybe the odd whale's willy from that exotic food restaurant near London Bridge. warm xx

I laugh myself sick when I saw that episode. The grossest thing I saw on that show is when Mike use a shop vac to clean insulation out of Barskey's bellybutton XX MJ

Oh well, there is a bunch of food out there that just doesn't make it into our food groups , that may be one or maybe not, know there has been a couple times the combined mixture of drink that has cuased over the lips beyond the gums here it comes, minutes later your brain saying not to bad, but what the hell is that my stomach making noises like washing machine with four rugs and a doormat stuck to one side. take care Dandy & Snatch

We have asimilar programme over here in the UK, but these show dirty jobs in the past. Same thing though.

I saw that episode too!! My fave was his visit to the horse breeding ranch. In college, we had to collect semen from stallions too. Peace, Pickles

Oh I love watching that Dirty Jobs show, it's such a hoot. I also saw that episode a while back and it was interesting. Thanks for reminding me about the Geo Ducks. I totally forgot about them

It is different from other seafood? In what way? LOL It does kind of look like something from a science fiction movie, well maybe an X rated science fiction movie. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight worried about whether or not one of those things crawled under my sheets.    The perversity of the universe is unbounded.
