I was a big shot in ABATE of IN for many years. A region director with 8000 members in NW IN underneath me, and on the board of directors. Used to run the front gate on day shift at the Boogie. Always had an all access badge, and would be up on the stage in 1 of he front corners during the Hoosier Honey. So, I know the inner workings quite well. The answer to your question is no. They do not hire strippers. There are some that will come specifically to compete along with the other girls because the cash prize is a good chunk of change. Also, you mentioned Little Sturgis being on the same weekend. That has been talked about many times at board meetings, but the crowd at the Boogie used to be all most more than we or the property could handle so there was no reason to change the dates. A few years ago, it just by chance happened that little sturgis was on a previous weekend and and so many people went down there and found it to be such a good time that now they go there instead of the Boogie. It would do no good for ABATE to change their dates now because the same thing would happen again.

I have been to the Boogie more than 25 times, and used to have a great time. Have no ben to the last 2, and probably won't go back. It is nothing like what it used to be with more than 15,000 people. Last year, there were around 4,000, with several hundred of those workers or staff. The reason the Hoosier Honey was moved to Friday is that to try and boost revenue, that added a Saturday only pass at a lower price but didn't think those people should be able to see the contest. ABATE if IN, as an organization is in deep trouble. Their membership has dropped from over 25,000 to under 8,000. The Boogie was their biggest fund raiser, and now struggling to break even. The state directors pay, around $125K for what is a not for profit volunteer organization, while running things into the ground, is why so many including myself have let their memberships lapse and don't go to the Boogie.
