What Fall?

What Fall?

Apparently in the Prairies Summer went right into Winter mode and people are wondering where their Fall weather went..According to the weather channel the 29th of September 2019 snowfall records are being broken West.
Cold air descending from the Arctic and a potent low pressure system that is funneling moisture into the region are both responsible for the heavy dumping of snow which will continue through early Monday .
At least one area has reached 80 cm of snow and parts of the mountains also higher elevations have the potential to see over 0 cm of snow by the time its all said and done. The city of Calgary was included in Environment Canada's snowfall warning totals between -25 cm was expected and they definately got that
All flights had been cancelled due to heavy wet snow and runways couldnt be cleared because of the heavy wet snowfall, Further East around parts of Southern Saskatchewan the heavy wet snow has begun to trees and power lines have come down with the snapped branches throwing parts of the Assiniboia area in darkness.
People in the hardest areas , especially the farmers have to dip into the winter feed so the animals have sustenance due to the fields being buried under various amounts of heavy snow...the sheep, horses, cows and other grazing animals have no open pastures in which to graze ...
****** The Prairie provinces are normally bleak and barren throughout the winter months and the frigid temperatures throughout that time is so bad that staying inside whenever possible is the only option ..Farmers brave the cold in order to see to their livestock have to be hardy and very tough ..I for one do not envy them and they shouldnt have to go through this so soon in the Fall ...but there is no Fall ...hopefully if Mother Nature can see her way through to shine on them and maybe melt some of the snow..these people can bring some sort of normal to their lives...

I'm sure the Farmers prepared for the chilly autumn season, if they pay any attention to the Farmers Almanac.

Depending upon here you live in the US - after some number of years with very dry -to- drought conditions, things like underground water table levels and aquifer water levels had dropped a significant (If not scary) amount.

Here in my part of Missouri we have had a very wet year. Hopefully this will help restore balance, and the very important underground water levels. Just a couple things Missouri is known for are caves, and springs. Generally, the rivers in the Ozark wilderness are entirely spring fed. Massive amounts of crystal clear water gushes up from underground aquifers and just pours out of springs at an incredible rate - to make these rivers that flow year-round.

Snowfall, and good deep snow pack at high elevations is also important to next years water supply, in some parts of our country. And after some number of years with very dry -to- drought conditions, an early start to the snow pack is probably a good thing...

maybe but when the animals have no grazing and they have to use the feed that was stashed for the cold winters there its hard on the ppl and animals ..they prepare but was not really prepared for that amount of snow...farmers depend on grazing so its not so hard on the winter supply..trucking hay out there is not cheap...but i am sure they were well prepared

yes i totally agree the snowfall up in the mountains is a very important addition to the eco system and if thats whats needed to help replenish the water table then i am all for it...snow does a wonderful job of putting minerals into the soil the longer it lays on the land it protects and replenishes the grass root system ...

I shall have to learn how to use the heat system in this new abode. I do not think I can do another night at 50. BUT in December I will think 50 is a heat wave. I really feel for the livestock and the owners. Going to be a tough winter

I agree and too many ppl make light of the issue i always have had a farm and my animals were always well fed but there are lean times when the winter slams snow fall after snow fall our way and it seems that the food is on an endless conveyor because animals have to est to stay warm ...lean for them is always a catastrophe lol its never that bad ...but some of the rescues didnt eat alot because of poor ownership so when i got them it was hard to convince them that they were not gonna starve..poor things ..i feel for the animals outside in that weather with not much to eat ..gotta be hard ..
